Presentation Title: Thermal Storage / Thermal Energy Systems

 

Come join the ASHRAE Gold Coast Chapter for our November ASHRAE meeting! Our speaker this month is Bruce Lindsay, Thermal Energy Systems Expert. He will be presenting on this topic on Tuesday (11/15/2022) evening starting at approximately 6:00 P.M. Our meeting will include a spread of food for attendees to enjoy as well a free drink ticket, so get there early!

We will be having the meeting in person at Lasso Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

 

Key Learning Objectives for this presentation include:

  1. Review of typical design and operation of thermal energy storage systems to reduce electric demand charges and utilize renewable energy
  2. Understand how utility grid disruptions cause chiller outages and how thermal energy storage can reduce response/recovery times
  3. Discuss how the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 can provide up to 40% investment tax credits for thermal energy systems

 

Presented by Bruce Lindsay, Thermal Energy Systems Expert

Bruce B. Lindsay, PE, ASHRAE Life Member, is the Business Development Leader for Trane Technologies’ Thermal Energy Storage systems.  He has been involved in thermal energy storage research, engineering, sales, and operation for over 30 years.  He was the Executive Director of the EPRI Thermal Storage Applications Research Center at the University of Wisconsin –Madison.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin.  He most recently managed the energy and resource conservation program for Brevard Public Schools, which had 20 schools with ice storage systems.  He published a history of thermal energy storage in the ASHRAE Journal and received the US Green Building Council’s 2020 Best of Green Schools-Transformation Award for his work on an ASHRAE Building Energy Quotient pilot program.  He was appointed to the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force—Schools Team.  He currently serves as President of the ASHRAE Space Coast Section.
